Network Performance Advisor

Network Performance Advisor

The NLANR Network Performance Advisor is an easily customizable framework that provides a single application to integrate the measurement, analysis, and display of network performance statistics.

The Advisor enables the writing of the analysis and display portions by providing a platform to allow easy integration of any number of network diagnostic tools, combined with the ability to uniformly query the results of these tools. It contains a network performance analysis tool and a network debugging utility designed for network engineers, and knowledge of a number of diagnostic tools, including ping, ifconfig, Iperf, and the Web100 suite of tools. Due to the Advisor's design, new analysis and display tools are easy to write, and new network diagnostic tools are straightforward to integrate.

The Advisor distinguishes itself by its ability to display and analyze an extremely broad set of network statistics, due to its ability to integrate any network diagnostic tool.

The National Laboratory for Applied Network Research (NLANR), funded by the National Science Foundation, provides engineering, traffic analysis, and technical end-user support for NSF High Performance Connections sites and high-performance network service providers such as the vBNS and Abilene networks.

The Distributed Applications Support Team (DAST) offers support for researchers working with high-performance network applications and assists in the development of distributed applications and tools. Networking assistance to campus network engineers, gigapop operators, and other high-performance networking professionals is provided by NLANR's Engineering Services staff. The Measurement and Network Analysis Group (MNA) conducts network performance measurement and analysis studies.
